\nThe Yoruba people comprise of several tribal units, each speaking a different dialect of the Yoruba language.
\nThere is Yoruba literature, which has developed a large body of writings including novels, poetry, critical writing and essays.
\nYoruba is studied in universities all over the world, and you may get a Ph.D. in Yoruba studies, one of the very few indigenous languages in Africa in which you get a doctorate.
\nYoruba music is rich, with various genres both traditional and modern.
\nEach Yoruba ethnic tribe is recognized for special characteristics and psychological dispositions. For example:
\nIjebu–banking and administration
\nOyo\u2014entertainment and politics
\nIbadan\u2014military and toughness
\nEkiti–farmers and sculptors
\nIjesha\u2014Trading and frankness
\nIfe\u2014Spirituality and origin
\nOndo-Ilaje\u2014water, folktales
\nOwo\u2014diplomats and ceremonies
\nIsehin, Oke Iho\u2014weaving and forest reserves
\nOshogbo\u2014Osun tourism, Dyeing
\nOgbomosho\u2014long distance merchants, importers
\nEgba\u2014Olumo tourists, sweet musical voice
\nAkure\u2014rocks and ancient palace
\nThey are hardworking people who have traits of creativity, friendliness, hospitality, gentleness, fairness, openness, and justice.
\nThey dislike begging, slothfulness, borrowing money or depending on others. They are proud of their indigenous cultures and say, \u201c\u00c8mi \u00f2 j\u1eb9 \u1eb9n\u00eckan n\u00ed gb\u00e8s\u00e8, mi \u00f2 s\u00ec t\u1ecdr\u1ecd \u1eb9\u0300w\u00f9 w\u1ecd\u0300. I\u1e63\u1eb9\u0301 \u1ecdw\u1ecd\u0301 mi ni m\u00f2 \u0144 j\u1eb9.\u201d This saying means, \u201cI owe nobody money, I do not borrow garments from anyone, and I eat from the sweat of my labor.\u201d
\nUnfortunately, the people were colonized and merged with other peoples with totally different values, including those who see nothing wrong in begging, slothfulness and brigandage. The Yoruba people have remained colonized with these other groups until today, and have not regained their independence, or been allowed to form their own nation.
\nThe Yoruba Nation which they are demanding would enable them to bring all these positive values together, so they can build a country that is debt-free, tolerant of diverse religions, progressive and enterprising.
\nMay Olodumare bless their desires to be free of their colonial trap.
