He assured that VOR will continue close dialogue with<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y15 pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">those elected as well as all those who are politically active to ensure restructuring and\u00a0return to the federal structure that the founding fathers of Nigeria agreed as the<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y17 pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">grundnorm for the country at independence.<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y18 pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">The VOR Chairman urged participants to offer concrete suggestions on how to create a\u00a0united front beyond partisan division with the ultimate goal of liberating our people and<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y1a pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">Nigerians in general from the ignorance, want and disease.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y1b pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">In his opening address&#8217;s, the Chairman of the event Dr.Christopher Kolade applauded VOR\u00a0for the initiative and stressed the need to have the Restructuring in the context of<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y1d pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">national transformation needed for socioeconomic development of the country. He\u00a0advised aspirants to be conscious of their role as representatives of the people.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y1f pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">Dr. Akin Fapohunda of VOR in his paper, <span class=\"pg-1ff3\">The Imperatives \u00a0of Restructuring and the Need for a<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y20 pg-1ff3 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">New Constitution for Nigeria,\u00a0<span class=\"pg-1ff1\">commended to the participants a VOR sponsored draft Nigerian<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y21 pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">constitution that embodies the aspirations of most advocates of restructuring. He outlined<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y22 pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">the basic features of the constitution and invited participants to take a critical look at the\u00a0draft and offer suggestions towards coming to a consensus in Yorubaland before engaging\u00a0other zones. He also disclosed that VOR will also spearhead the effort to achieve intra-zonal accord on the constitution for the Region. He pointed out that rationalisation and<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y26 pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">division of responsibilities between state and regional governments and discipline rather\u00a0than burden the system will indeed provide for economies of scale across several<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y28 pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">government functions.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y29 pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">In the interactive section that followed, the presidential aspirants and party<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y2a pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">Representatives present all placed emphasis on much needed Restructuring as a collective<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-1m0 pg-1x6 pg-1h2 pg-1y2b pg-1ff1 pg-1fs0 pg-1fc0 pg-1sc0 pg-1ls0 pg-1ws0\">endeavour involving devolution of powers and addressing structural imbalances.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<ul id=\"container\" class=\"reset\">\n<li id=\"lipage2\" class=\"pageli\">\n<div class=\"page-outer-wrapper\">\n<div id=\"pfpage2\" class=\"page-inner-wrapper\" data-width=\"304\" data-height=\"429.6873949579832\" data-scale=\"0.5109243697478991\" data-pageno=\"2\">\n<div id=\"pg-2pf2\" class=\"pf pg-2w0 pg-2h0\">\n<div class=\"pc pg-2pc2 pg-2w0 pg-2h0\">\n<div class=\"c pg-2x0 pg-2y0 pg-2w1 pg-2h1\">\n<div class=\"t pg-2m0 pg-2x1 pg-2h2 pg-2y1 pg-2ff1 pg-2fs0 pg-2fc0 pg-2sc0 pg-2ls0 pg-2ws0\">They emphasised the need to set up a committee to conduct the social and economic\u00a0mapping of the South West with a view to rectifying the imbalances.<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-2m0 pg-2x1 pg-2h2 pg-2y3 pg-2ff1 pg-2fs0 pg-2fc0 pg-2sc0 pg-2ls0 pg-2ws0\">The participants overwhelmingly thanked VOR for the Town Hall Meeting and affirmed\u00a0their belief in restructuring as the most enduring way to effective governance and<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-2m0 pg-2x1 pg-2h2 pg-2y5 pg-2ff1 pg-2fs0 pg-2fc0 pg-2sc0 pg-2ls0 pg-2ws0\">prosperity,<\/div>\n<div class=\"t pg-2m0 pg-2x1 pg-2h2 pg-2y6 pg-2ff1 pg-2fs0 pg-2fc0 pg-2sc0 pg-2ls0 pg-2ws0\">It was agreed that the interaction must continue and they pledged to faithfully represent\u00a0the aspirations of Yoruba people and assiduously work for ensuring that restructuring\u00a0becomes reality in the next legislative cycle.
